Surprise! The power of innovative campaigning

The strategies of the animal advocacy movement is in an ongoing evolutionary arms race with the stakeholders, who wish to maintain the status quo. As our campaigning targets become more aware of the dynamics in a certain tactic, they become less susceptible. Campaign tactics are thus at their strongest as long as they are novel and surprising. Long term successful campaigning therefore requires the ability to stay creative and innovative in our communication, tactics and strategies. In this talk I will focus on where good ideas actually come from and how leaders and campaigners can develop structures in their organization to support innovation. Finally I will present a case study on a novel campaigning strategy, developed and tested in Anima International during 2018-2019 and the challenges and lessons learned in the process.
